Estonian Academy of Sciences Foundation
The Estonian Academy of Sciences Foundation was set up with the Estonian National Culture Foundation on May 1, 2006 for the purpose of supporting research efforts of young Estonian scientists holding a doctorate. A special scholarship named after Tiit Talpsep* has been granted since 2009 with the aim of forwarding the studies of graduate students in the field of molecular microbiology and virology.
The new sub-foundation of the Estonian National Culture Foundation was established with a donation in the amount of 400 thousand Estonian kroons from the proceeds of selling the Academy’s holiday house on the Vormsi island. The Academy further calls on other organisations, enterprises, institutions and individuals to make their contibution to the advancement of leading edge knowledge, research and young scientists, thereby assisting the progress of to the economic, social and cultural development of Estonia for today and the future.
Scholarships are awarded by the Board of Trustees comprising Members of the Academy Mart Ustav, Leo Mõtus, Jaan Ross and Peeter Saari.
The first Tiit Talpsep scholarship (in the amount of 10 thousand Estonian kroons) was conferred in 2009 to Jens-Konrad Preem.

*Tiit Talpsep (January 22, 1954 - February 26, 2008) was an Estonian biologist, whose studies were involved with molecular biology. Establishing of the scholarship fund named after Tiit Talpsep was accomplished thanks to the financial donation from Member of Academy Mart Ustav.
